I would nominate Chauncey Billups. Seeing the impact he's had on this team the last two seasons, being in Denver and hearing the stories about him on and off the court make me believe strongly that he will make an excellent coach and/or executive someday, a stated goal of his. He has played under some of the best (Larry Brown and George Karl...well at least Larry Brown), is THE leader of the team and has respect from everyone around the league. In fact, I've had many conversations about axing George and making Chauncey the Nugs player-coach. If Ty Lawson becomes an absolute stud, this will be even more proof.

My immediate thought: tactical planner is the Point Guard's job already, so expand that. While there are many good PGs, most lack experience, respect, &/or familiarity, with Nash and Kidd as exceptions. (Cassell may not manage his own minutes well.) Nash seems to be an intuitive player, which usually doesn't go well, e.g. Isiah Thomas, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan. So there's only Kidd, who you did mention, albeit briefly.
A lot of writing to say I agree. Today's potentially successful player/coaches are Kidd, Duncan, and Bryant, probably in that order. Short list.
